Solving the mystery of the anchor in Soper Park

For decades, an anchor has sat quietly near the Mill Creek in Soper Park and the hunt for its mysterious origin came to an end last January after a few people put all the pieces together.

Michelle Hogan’s search for answers started as far back as 2015—researching about the families in the area within the last 100 years or digging around at the Cambridge archives.

At Wesley United Church, Hogan has assisted people in offering historical tours. While researching about the church’s history, the anchor came into view.

“When I started researching, I was told by one person that there was no story on the anchor, and I just could not accept that,” she said.

Throughout the years, Hogan shared her findings through Facebook posts. In 2021, she uploaded a photograph she discovered while looking through a family photo album – Soper Park has been a home to her family for four generations.
