First hospice in the region celebrates its 25th anniversary
Lisaard and Innisfree Hospice brought people together with a barbecue and some music to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Cambridge house yesterday.
The Lisaard House, on Speedsville Road, was the first hospice to open in the Region of Waterloo to provide palliative care for people terminal illness.
Executive director Maria Empringham was formerly a nurse but has now been part of the team for 18 years.
“When Lisaard first opened, they didn’t have any funding,” she said.
“It’s amazing to see how much it has grown and being able to provide this for families across our region.”
